Women’s Backcountry Weekend: Female only (sorry dudes) backcountry ski and splitboard weekend at Manitoba Hut
Alaska Huts is excited to bring back a second Ladies Only Ski Weekend at Manitoba! We are stoked for an excuse to celebrate awesome women and Alaskan winter at its best: fully supported by a warm cabin.
The goal of Women’s Backcountry Ski Weekend is to promote camaraderie, community, and support amongst female skiers and winter sports enthusiasts by bringing them together at Manitoba cabin for a weekend of stoke, skiing, snowboarding, and fun. The weekend includes a day of skiing, avalanche beacon practice, a raffle and sauna fun.
What’s Included:
Your reservation to Women’s Backcountry Weekend includes one night in a Yurt bunk, dinner Saturday night, breakfast and coffee Sunday morning! Upon reserving, your name will be entered into a raffle for fun prizes.
Prerequisites:
Participants must be able to ski and splitboard up and downhill in variable terrain and changing snow conditions. Gear will not be provided. If you need gear, contact Powderhound Ski Shop.
-
The event begins at Manitoba Cabin and Yurts at 9:30 AM on Saturday, February 1st and ends at 11 AM on Sunday, February 2nd.
-
Dinner, breakfast and the price of a bunk at Manitoba are included in the cost of each booking.
-
After arriving on Saturday, we will break out into group levels and do some Avalanche Beacon practice. We’ll then spend the rest of the day skiing, concluding our day with dinner and some evening activities (think raffle!). Lucky for us, Manitoba is also equipped with a Finnish sauna and firepit.
Breakfast (including coffee, don’t worry!) is provided on Sunday morning. Check-out is at 11 AM, but feel free to spend the day skiing on your own before heading home!

Yes.
Participants must be able to ski OR split board, up and downhill in variable terrain and changing snow conditions. However, if you are not a very experienced Backcountry skier or split boarder, don’t worry! We will be breaking out into 4 level groups (Novice, Beginner, Intermediate, Advanced) with leaders to show the way up and down Manitoba Mountain. This event is a safe space to learn more about backcountry skiing and split boarding with the full support of the women around you! However, please know how to operate your backcountry gear and avalanche safety equipment. If you are uncomfortable skiing in variable conditions or have never been backcountry skiing, this event might not be for you.
Please designate which level of skier/splitboarder you are when you book your spot:
Novice: I can ski/snowboard & have appropriate backcountry gear, but this is one of my first days touring.
Beginner: I have gone ski touring or splitboarding several times before, but am still very new to backcountry travel.
Intermediate: I have been ski touring or splitboarding more than 20 times and feel comfortable in the backcountry.
Advanced: I have been ski touring or splitboarding for multiple years, feel comfortable in the backcountry, am an efficient backcountry traveler and all my systems are “dialed in”.
-
Don’t have backcountry gear? Check out the Powder Hound Ski Shop in Girdwood!
-
Manitoba is fully outfitted with mattresses on bunks, dishes and utensils in the kitchen, wood for the wood stoves and propane for cooking. There is no electricity, and water is retrieved from Canyon Creek – which is then treated by boiling or filtering means.
-
Please bring warm-weather gear to be outside in winter conditions, a lunch for Saturday, a headlamp, a sleeping bag, and your full backcountry set up (skis/split board, boots, skins, poles, beacon, shovel, probe).
