Fungi Festival 2023

Saturday, August 26th

Join us for Fungi Festival on Saturday August 26th at 12PM to Sunday, August 27th at 12PM!

Booking includes bunk in a Manitoba Yurt, Fungi Fry on Saturday night and Sunday morning coffee.

The Fungi Festival will be led by Dr. Philippe Amstislavski of UAA, who studied the biology of mushrooms and fungi at Yale School of Forestry. Explore, identify and gather local mushrooms, lichens, and fungi in the Kenai Mountains.

Fall Woodstock 2023

Saturday, September 30th, 2023

Join us at the Manitoba Hut for Fall Woodstock 2023! We’ll work on projects to get Manitoba ready for the winter, including hauling wood, cleaning, and winterizing.

We also want to make this a fun event, so we are working on getting some live music, beer, and food as thanks to you, our awesome volunteers.

Spring Woodstock 2023

Saturday, June 10th

Join us for Woodstock on Saturday, June 10th to bring Manitoba out of its winter mode and get it ready for summer operations! We’ll be stacking wood, cleaning, painting, and hopefully getting some beautification projects done!

Please RSVP by emailing us at [email protected]. This helps us gauge how much food and beer to have on hand!

We are also looking for someone with a 4-wheeler or side-by-side to help out, so please contact us if you are willing to bring it down!

Fungi Festival

Saturday, August 27th, 2022

Interested in learning more about the fungi around you here in Alaska? This limited-space workshop, led by expert mushroom hunter Professor Philippe Amstislavski will involve learning about local mushrooms, foraging practice, and a grill out with the fruits of your labor!

Booking includes bunk in a Manitoba Yurt, Fungi Fry on Saturday night and Sunday morning coffee. The Fungi Festival will be led by Dr. Philippe Amstislavski of UAA, who studied the biology of mushrooms and fungi at Yale School of Forestry. Explore, identify and gather local mushrooms, lichens, and fungi in the Kenai Mountains.

Dinner on Saturday night is pot-luck style, so please bring a dish to compliment the Fungi Fry and breakfast for Sunday morning.

Tickets are $35. Youth should be accompanied by a guardian or parent.

Join us for Woodstock on Sunday, June 5th to bring Manitoba out of its winter mode and get it ready for summer operations! We have lots of projects to work on: cleaning and organizing, stocking wood (8 cords this time, not so much as last spring!), finishing the new snowmachine shed, and hauling construction materials for the new Yurt!

Please RSVP by emailing us at [email protected]. This helps us gauge how much food and beer to have on hand! This year, Midnight Sun Brewing Co., Zip Kombucha, and Indian Valley Meats have generously donated to help keep everyone fed and hydrated. Thank you to all of our supporters!

Wiley Post on the Deck

Wednesday June 8th from 6:30-9PM

Join us for music at Anchorage Brewing Company’s outdoor deck area! Help us fundraise to build a new yurt and enjoy tunes from local band Wiley Post. Spread the word, bring all your friends, and come ready to have a good time. Anchorage Brewing Company will have beer available for purchase throughout the evening.

We will also have some Alaska Huts merch for sale, and the authors of the updated guidebook Alaska Adventure 55 Ways, John & Rebecca Wolfe, will be there to help promote the new book!

Doors open at 6:30 PM. Tickets are $15.

All proceeds support the Outpost Yurt, a third yurt at Manitoba Cabin and Yurts.

Woodstock 2021

Join us for Woodstock 2021 on Sunday, October 3rd at 12PM at Manitoba Cabin and Yurts. We are planning on hauling and stacking 4cords of seasoned firewood, building a covered storage area for a snowmachine, fixing up Toba’s Yurt deck, and generally getting the facility ready for a busy winter ahead! Woodstock is an outdoor volunteer event with beverages, food and good company. Please RSVP to stay in touch about any last minute changes! Due to COVID-19, we are keeping this event small and intimate and requiring all attendees to be vaccinated and bring masks.

Woodstock 2021

Join us for Woodstock 2021 on Sunday, June 6th at 11AM at Manitoba Cabin and Yurts. We are planning on hauling and stacking a whopping 12 cords, more than we’ve ever had delivered – so we need all hands on deck. Learn about Alaska Huts’ accomplishments and future plans regarding the Glacier Discovery Project, as well as ongoing operations of Manitoba Cabin and Yurts while enjoying a beer from one of our favorite local breweries!

February Board Meeting

Fall Woodstock 2022

Sunday, September 25th, 2022

Join us for Woodstock on Sunday, September 25th to get Manitoba ready for winter! We will get the wood ready for the main cabin and the Outpost Yurt, as well as making sure everything is cleaned up and organized for (hopefully) a fantastic winter!

We will have food, beer, good times, and hopefully good weather, but it is always good to be prepared for rain this time of year, so make sure to bring your rain jackets. Also, based on last year, we might even have a little snow on the ground, so be ready for anything!

Trail Tales: Alaska Huts x Alaska Trails!

Tuesday, September 20th, 2022 at 7pm

Trail Tales is back this fall; join us with Alaska Trails on September 20th at the Anchorage Museum for stories of life, trails, and adventures! If you haven’t been to Trail Tales before, imagine a trail and adventure focused Arctic Entries.

There will be 7 stories, each about 7 minutes long. Come to support Alaska Huts and Alaska Trails, as well as enjoy some outdoor stories!

Alaska Huts and Alaska Trails will split the proceeds from this event to help us keep providing outdoor opportunities!

Fall Party at Turnagain Brewing Company

Tuesday October 18th, from 6:30-8PM

Join us at Turnagain Brewing Company on Tuesday, October 18th for a Fall Party. Learn about what Alaska Huts has been up to this summer, and plans for the future. Bid on silent auction items from local businesses and sip a Turnagain Brewing beer.
